Cotton

In the summer months, natural fibres such as cotton are your friend when it comes to creating cool, comfortable clothing. Cotton is known especially for its breathability; it’s porous fibres absorbing and releasing any moisture quickly to avoid you becoming sweaty and sticky!

Creating loose fitting clothing from cotton is also beneficial, as you won’t feel so warm if you are wearing a loose, lightweight garment because you will allow air to circulate around your body and cool you down.

Linen

Linen is also a fantastic natural fibre which it renowned for being cool and breathable. Like cotton, linen will absorb moisture from your body, while still feeling dry. However, linen also has antifungal and antibacterial properties, which means your clothing will stay fresher for longer!

Rayon

If you are looking to create a long, flowing garment for summer, rayon is the perfect material to use. It is extremely lightweight and breathable, which again means that any moisture it comes into contact with will evaporate quickly, leaving your garment dry.

Rayon hangs beautifully and doesn’t cling to your body, which makes it the perfect material to use for long maxi dresses; which need to be thin due to the amount of material used. No one wants a thick, heavy maxi dress in the middle of summer!

Sheer Fabrics

Fabrics such as chiffon, lace and organza are perfect summer fabrics. Light and breezy, these fabrics are great for keeping you cool while adding a touch of class to a garment. Printed fabrics also give the clothing a summery feel, especially floral or pastel patterns.

You may think you need to layer up sheer fabrics, but you can simply line your garments with another lightweight fabric to combat the sheerness.
